Player to Watch: Jeff Green, Early Season Feel Good-Story

As reported via green street,

Since being called the most impressive player in the preseason by coach Doc Rivers, Jeff Green is quickly becoming an early candidate for feel-good story of the year.

Teammate, Kevin Garnett was quoted after yesterday's game against the Sixers saying that he has been most impressed by how Green has recovered from taking the whole last season off  after being cut due to complications with his aortic aneurysm diagnosis. (Side note, Green spent this past year off getting a degree in English with a minor in theology and was resigned by the Celtics in August.  The man just keeps on impressing us).

“Jeff’s a lot more aggressive than I can remember, man,” said Garnett. “I can remember when he first got here. Maybe he was just understanding his role or whatever — at times he was tentative.”

When originally acquired from the Thunder, Green was the expected heir to Paul Pierce's role as the Celtics starting small forward.

With the progress he has made and recent praise lauded on him by those around him, Green could be a player to keep an eye on as Rivers is sure to rest his veteran superstars (Pierce and Garnett) throughout the season in the same way Gregg Popovich has been doing for years with Tim Duncan.  Just as Duncan's fantasy worth has slipped over the past couple years, although his impact in critical games has remained high, owners of Pierce and Garnett should be ready for a drop in minutes and subsequently fantasy production.
